Most people get into business for themselves because they say they want financial freedom, however time and time again, only a few people are willing to do what it takes to achieve it. I attended a the other day regardingtraining and it was so cool, but at the end of the day, the presenter was saying to spend time getting to know at least one person a day that you meet via your social networking portal. Take some time to really get to know your new found friend, and in the process ask them a series of questions. This is vital in controlling the conversation. His questions were very psychologically specific, however the point was not to pitch your business and listen to the needs of someone that you have requested or accepted as a friend.
Too many people are jumping on social sites with an agenda to sale their business opportunity to someone, and everyone knows that people love to buy but hate to be sold. Another powerful saying is - people join people, not businesses. If a person likes you, then they will be more favorable of wanting to do business with you, purchase from you, and or partner up with you. However if a person never gets to know you because you are constantly directing them to a seminar or a or a teleconference call, etc., that is not good. However, if their is a person who is allowing your prospect to get to know them on the social network scene as a 'friend' will be the one who secures the new associate / business partner.
If you compare dating with prospecting, I am sure you would have a paradigm shift. For example, if a woman has two suitors and one is getting to know her, while the other is rushing into 'things' which one do you believe will win the girl? Business is sort of the same way; you should keep this analogy in mind when you are prospecting.
